The Isle of Wight Scooter Rally kicks off on Friday night with live music and DJs at various venues in Sandown and Ryde, another coastal town that hosts different music nights. You can choose from a range of genres, such as ska, mod, soul, indie and punk. The music continues on Saturday night, with more bands and DJs to keep you dancing until the early hours.

On Saturday daytime, you can visit the custom show and trade fair at the Ice Rink in Ryde, where you can admire some of the best scooters in the country and buy parts, accessories, clothing and memorabilia. You can also enter your own scooter in the competition and win prizes and trophies.

Sundays Scooter Ride-Out

The highlight of the rally is the big ride-out on Sunday, which starts from the Ice Rink car park in Ryde.

The scooters gather along the seafront at Ryde several hours before. Walking around you see all the scooters, chat with the riders, and be amazed at the detailed work that some of the bikes entail.

At 1 pm the roar of the engines starts as over 1000 riders prepare to exit the ice rink in a long procession. You’ll also hear the distinctive sound of scooter engines and horns as they cruise along the roads. The crowds gather quickly so be sure to get a good viewing spot. The exit from the ice rink car park is the place to see the riders of the Isle of Wight scooter rally emerge.

The ride-out ends at the airport, where you can enjoy a barbecue and more live music.

Since then, it has grown in popularity and reputation, attracting scooterists from all over the UK and beyond. The riders I spoke to from Yorkshire to Torbay all had a spirit and passion that made this rally so special.
